A heartfelt congratulations to all the graduates of the class of 2011 at Yarmouth High School. This past Sunday the graduation ceremony for Yarmouth High School was held on what might have been one of the most beautiful days we have seen in weeks. On hand to deliver the commencement speech was former governor the Honorable Angus King. He delivered a motivating speech in which he described some of his key moments as governor. One such story I believe also did a great job of summing up what made him such an amazing and effective governor. He described how when he first proposed the controversial idea of the Maine Learning Technology Initiative he said he received many calls from the public. One such caller stated, and I paraphrase, “We are a poor state please let someone else lead this initiative” to which governor King responded, and I paraphrase again, “because we are a poor state we must lead”. I truly feel that responses like that defined the character of Angus King. I know the kids enjoyed his speech and took it heart as they are a part of his legacy now being some of the first group of students to receive laptops under the MLTI program. So cheers to our graduates and a Bravo to former governor the Honorable Angus King.
